A new Gourmet Food outlet is expected to open in the city this summer, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned.
The outlet, which will be located in the Fulton Market on West Market Street, will be one of a number of new restaurants expected to launch in Atlanta during the next year.
The announcement comes after two restaurants were forced to close following the passage of House Bill 554, which allows restaurants to reopen after two years if they have no existing space.
The restaurants were both located in downtown Atlanta.
Gourmet Food, which operates under the name Giant Food, is expected open for business this summer.
The new location, which is slated to open this fall, will include two-bedroom apartments and will be operated by the same owner as the old Giant Food location.
The Atlanta-based company has partnered with the Georgia Tech Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center to help fund the new Gummy Gourmet restaurant.
“We have a team of dedicated employees, including a culinary team, who are focused on helping to bring a new energy to the Atlanta food scene,” the company’s owner, Jeff Lein, said in a statement.
Lein has been working to reopen restaurants in Atlanta since last spring, when he was forced to pull his entire Georgia Tech business because of the state’s strict law on what can be done with a business’ operating budget.
He also began the process of hiring a chef, but his plans fell through and the Georgia Department of Health ultimately revoked the license of Giant Food.
The new location will open on West Street next to the Georgia Dome, but Lein says that’s not a priority.
He says the Atlanta location will be open by the end of the year.
The new Giant Food outlet will serve up a selection of gourmet meals like Gumbo Tacos, Chicken Parmesan Tacos and Spicy Chicken Wings, which are served in two flavors: spicy and sweet.
The restaurant will also offer a rotating menu of fresh produce, as well as a full-service bar and a wine bar.
The Atlanta-area restaurant, which also serves as a bar, will serve a small selection of cocktails.
“We’re not going to go overboard with cocktails,” Lein said.
“I think we have a great mix of people.
I don’t think we’re going to be the only place that’s going to offer a cocktail menu.”
Giant Foods is currently closed in New York and Chicago.
